About NSCC

Our Mission

North Shore Country Club, nestled on secluded rolling hills just 25 miles from New York City, provides its members with a charming and casual “Country-Estate Retreat”. The historic 1912 clubhouse, tennis courts, fitness center, and picturesque bungalows are all embraced by water views of the Long Island Sound.

Forming the highlight of the facility, is a classically designed Seth Raynor and Charles Blair MacDonald golf course, once nominated as one of America’s Best Classic Courses. The course was recently rehabilitated by renowned golf architect, Tom Doak. A master of taking advantage of a property’s natural assets, Tom Doak has devised a course reflecting its architectural lineage.

North Shore is committed to providing a wide range of services and amenities with programs that appeal to all ages and abilities. North Shore Country Club provides its members with the perfect family getaway that is close to home.

Our History

The charm that is North Shore Country Club is in part aesthetic, in part nostalgic, dating back to the days when horse power meant horses. Our humble start began with the clubhouse, an 1860 farmhouse known as Glenwood. Chartered in 1914, North Shore Country Club maintains a strong tradition of excellence and has undergone several modernizations to meet the demands of a contemporary membership. To this day, the clubhouse still elicits hints of those architectural beginnings at every corner. Situated on 165 rolling acres overlooking Long Island Sound, North Shore maintains a casual atmosphere that serves as a refuge from hectic contemporary lifestyles.

The land for the club was purchased for $350,000 and included five bungalows and three houses. Entrance fees and annual dues in 1914 were a mere $300 with each member buying a “Certificate of Beneficial Interest” for $1500. In the early 1920’s, North Shore also had its own private beach and waterfront, now Tappen Beach, a boathouse, and a pier with a catwalk up the hill to the clubhouse.

In 1916, notable golf course architects Seth Raynor and Charles Blair MacDonald, known for building courses to stand the test of time, designed this 6,365 yard course. Until recently, the course at North Shore remained virtually unchanged from their original design with putting greens that tend to be small, tightly bunkered, sloped, and quick. Recently rehabilitated by today’s top designer, Tom Doak, as devoted to the game and preservation of natural surroundings as the original architects.

For those who are privileged to play the course, the experience is one that lasts a lifetime. The Club’s mission and responsibility is not only to preserve our notable heritage, but to build upon it while providing a high level of quality service to our members.
